Her battle with NHS bosses began in April 2008 when they turned down her application for Sutent - the only treatment for her terminal kidney cancer which doctors thought would extend her life.

12 July Jean's family wrote to Health Secretary Alan Johnson asking for him to intervene
16 July She was rushed to The Christie hospital struggling to breathe
1 Aug Jean lost her appeal to the PCT
6 Aug A good Samaritan gave Jean £10,000 to start treatment
7 Aug The government's medicines watchdog ruled Sutent does work but said it was too expensive
28 Aug Jean led a protest to the House of Commons calling on MPs to make Sutent available on the NHS
23 Oct Scans showed Jean had responded `exceptionally' well to Sutent and Salford PCT agreed to pay for it
4 Dec We revealed Salford PCT spent £17,000 on lawyers to fight Jean's case
27 Feb Doctors told Jean told her tumours have shrunk
25 Mar The government health watchdog agreed to allow people to have Sutent on the NHS
4 May Jean started to have problems breathing
