A SHOPPER was turned away at the checkout at Asda - because he wanted to buy too much.
Will Hannah, 41, went to the superstore in Eastlands, Manchester, to buy £1,000 of cleaning products.
But when he tried to pay he was told he had gone over the purchasing limit.
In the row that followed he claimed a member of staff rolled the packed trolley over his foot.
Mr Hannah, managing director of the city centre Blue Rainbow Apartment Hotel, had gone to buy the goods when his regular delivery of cleaning supplies failed to arrive on time.
He said: "It was probably about £800 to £1,000 worth of cleaning products. The cashier was really nice but said I could only buy six of each item.
"I gave her one of my business cards to prove I wasn't buying it to sell on in a corner shop or something like that but she still wasn't allowed to serve me. Eventually someone else came and I asked him where the sign was explaining there was a limit.
"He said there was no sign but that he was telling me that I couldn't buy anything at all and snatched the trolley, pulling it over my foot.
"I ended up going to Tesco the following day where I bought everything I needed with no trouble at all."
A spokeswoman for Asda said Mr Hannah had almost stripped the shelves of some items, which meant other customers would not have been able to get what they needed.
She said he had arrived at the till with two trolleys full and that the member of staff who went to speak to him had not deliberately pulled the trolley over his foot but simply moved it to the side.

ASDA have lost a customer and Tesco have gained one.
Not really a news story is it?

then when someone actually buys in bulk the wont sell them to him!
i suggest tesco's. you could have bought £300 worth in each of the ones up here in oldham and got all that you needed Mr Hannah!

I'm sure Mr Hannah will vote with his feet in future.
(Wish my name was a palindrome.)

JohnB i think you will find that this bulk buy rule mainly applies to products that are on offer (i.e £1)and is in place to stop shops buying all the offers at the expence of "Normal" shoppers.
Some products now are cheaper at the big supermarkets than they are at the cash and carrys

i dont think either sentiment ever really applied, the most sucessful sellers being those who combine treating the customers as cash cows to be milked dry, while maintaining an illusion of offering good service

I can't argue about your personal experiences, but I've always found both the Co-op, and Marks & Spencer staff, to be 'on the ball'.

Thanks ADSA maybe all these stores should follow suit and there may be enough products to put the savings back into peoples pockets.
So think on you greedy beggars go to the cash and carry, we will be watching you.

Asda = Wal-mart, fair enough.
But Dame Shirley Porter (Tesco), was a shining beacon of fiscal and political clarity, wasn't she?

i would not pass a foot through the doors of ASDA, even though there is one more or less on my doorstep. call me a snob, but i prefer quality over quantity and thus shop in M&S, leaving those kind of places who those who prefer the cheaper end of the market.

"i buy 20 cartons of milk regular" thats a lot of milk for your cornflakes mate" its people like you that make me sick. I think these businesses should be name and shamed and there business also boycotted.
I was in adsa on friday, i could not get any cheap butter sugar or the buns they have on offer because some businesses money grabber had bought them all up for there greasy cafe or minging butty round.
Got the message!
