SALFORD MP Hazel Blears' future in the cabinet is in doubt after she stood in the wings at Prime Minister's Questions in the Commons.
Local government secretary Ms Blears arrived late for question time and did not sit on the government front bench.
She is reportedly facing the axe when Gordon Brown reshuffles his cabinet this summer - along with Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.
Ms Blears - whose hobbies include riding motorbikes and tap dancing - hit the headlines this week for attacking the prime minister's appearance on YouTube to announce his ill-fated plans to scrap some MPs' expenses.
She also claimed the government's efforts to get its message across had been `lamentable'.
Credibility
Tory MPs used her words as the basis for an attempt to undermine Gordon Brown's credibility.
They also pointed to the fact that Ms Blears' fellow cabinet ministers - James Purnell, MP for Stalybridge and Hyde, and Andy Burnham, MP for Leigh - left secret documents on a train.
And they poured further scorn on former deputy premier John Prescott's public impression of Les Dawson, and the home secretary's various expenses claims - including one for adult videos watched by her husband.
Ms Blears, a former Tony Blair supporter, took centre stage in the Commons as the political drama unfolded.
She looked embarrassed as Tory leader David Cameron quoted at length from the article she wrote in The Observer.
Mr Cameron said the prime minister was now isolated in the cabinet.
"He's the only one who thinks he's any good," said Mr Cameron. "No one doubts he might have come into politics for the right reasons, but isn't it clear he's just not up to the job?"
Mr Brown relied on suggesting the Conservative leader was too concerned with personalities and had nothing to say on the big issues of the day. There was little response from Labour backbenchers.
The leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg, also suggested that Mr Brown was `not up to the job'.
The Tories suggested that the only answer was for Mr Brown to call an election - echoes of last October, when Mr Brown faced similar criticism from some Labour MPs.
He now faces another revolt over plans to part-privatise the Royal Mail, as well a potential hammering at the European elections in June.
If those turn out to be disastrous for Labour, his leadership, as the government approaches a general election early next year, is bound to be under scrutiny.

As the party progresses, they start to fall out. Kids get caught taking more than their fare share of cake, some of the kids get sent home, others are packed off to bed for bad behaviour. The house starts to look a mess with half-finished dishes about the plave. The games get boring, nobody really wants to play but feels they have to.
By the end, tempers are frayed, people are sulking, the kids are all fractious and looking to blame each other for everything. The people who invited them are disappointed with the way they behaved and can't wait to get rid of them.
But cheer up. The mums and dads (or other responsible adult) will be here shortly to collect them. It will take a while to clear up the mess but at least it will be ages before we have to put up with them all again.
PS: this probably won't appear due to the MEN's pro-labour stance but I enjoyed writing it anyway.

Let's assume a bus driver gets £20k a year and pays 25% tax. If his tax just went solely to pay one year's worth of Blears' expenses he would have to work for 170 years. Incredible.
She also has a normal accent until asked about Salford and then she does an impression of some scally - why? 'Me wurkin klass roots, Salford born n bred and prowd of it like. Yer don't mess wi a lass from Salford. I used t'eat dirt fo me brekfast and live in a tin bath when I were liccle me like'.
The end of this lot is nigh. Look at Brown, how is he the leader of our country? You loo at most statesmen and they are well dressed and have an air of authority about them, this lots like like failed teachers. What did the Home Secretary of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland do prior to this role? What qualified her for it? It was Economics Teacher - Councillor - MP.
Imagine going for even a job as a plumber and them asking what qualifications you had to enable you to do the job and you said 'Icre Cream Man' and they said 'you've got the job, go fix some pipes'. Same principle.

And you know why.............................................. because she is not proud of where she comes from and is far more interested in where she's going to.................. which hopefully wont be very far (career wise I mean, the further away from Salford the better)
