Man dies in savage dogs attack

A MAN has died after being savaged by two Alsatian dogs.

Andrew James Walker, 21, was bitten by the dogs when he tried to separate them during a fight at his home, in Reads Avenue, Blackpool, at about 8pm on Friday, say police.

Lancashire Police said he was bitten and then fell and hit his head, which they suspect caused his death.

Police said the dogs' owner intervened and the dogs were dragged away.

Mr Walker collapsed and died shortly afterwards, despite the intervention of paramedics.

The cause of death has not been established and a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

He lived at Reads Avenue with the dogs' owner.

Police said Mr Walker, who is from Stoke on Trent, had lived in Blackpool for the past year.

The two dogs have been destroyed at the direction of their owner.

Tragic incident, though judging by the wording of the article, was he bitten or savaged-big difference in both terminologies.

On the reporting side of the article though-is the paper now the North west Evening News, not Manchester is it? Local news must be at a minimum or just picking up regional news to fill space must be the norm now, cant see the word Manchester mentioned once in this article.

bubbob, if you read the newspaper instead of just the website, you'd find that the MEN reports National stories - not Manchester news.

Tragic, but the police think he died as a result of hitting his head so, yes, the headline is very misleading. It suggests he was savaged to death by the dogs which is clearly different to what the police think caused his death.

bubbob, you are quite right, there is a huge difference between being bitten dogs and dying due to a head injury sustained in and death being caused by being savaged in a dog attack. I do wish that we had more factual reporting whether it be local, regional or national. This emotive reporting is ridiculous and irrational.

Please, let's not go overboard on hype here, or next they'll be calling for all Alsatians to be classed as dangerous dogs and banned. It's entirely possible the man was bitten whilst trying to separate them as proper dog fights can be pretty vicious affairs and I speak from experience - but tragic as it is, if he then fell and hit his head and this caused the injury that led to his death, then it's nothing to do with the dogs. I know loads of people won't agree with me but I'm entitled to my opinion and think it was just as tragic that a knee-jerk emotional reaction then caused the destruction of the dogs, because it's not going to change things or bring Mr Walker back. Dogs WILL fight from time to time, yes, even normally placid pet dogs - it's just one of those things - but let's get some proper perspective on this. Animals are animals and yet are punished with the most severe penalty of all - enforced euthanasia - when something like this occurs, yet when it's members of our own supposedly intelligent, nay, superior species that scrap just for the hell of it and as a result someone sadly dies, the perpetrator(s) very often aren't even adequately punished and not nearly for long enough, when maybe we should just apply the same unbending rule and euthanase them too with the added bonus that it would ease the burden on the taxpayers' and the overcrowded prison system too.
