A MAN in his 60s was killed when he was hit by a stolen car.
He suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, in Gorton.
The black Vauxhall Vectra failed to stop. It was later found abandoned.
Two men and two women were seen leaving the area. It happened as the elderly man was crossing Mount Road at about 3.30pm on Tuesday.
The Vectra, registration YF52 0AX, was found abandoned on Cranmere Avenue.
Police say the car was seen being driven erratically along Mount Road shortly before the crash. They are urging witnesses to come forward.
Local people estimated the car was travelling at more than 60mph in a 30mph zone.
The victim was thrown about 50 yards after being hit by the vehicle near the junction of Longsight Road.
One woman who was among the first on the scene left a floral tribute the next morning.
The woman, who did not want to be named, said: "I heard a bang and ran outside and he was on the floor.
"When I got to him I could see there was no sign of life. There was an off-duty policeman who was passing and he stopped to help before the paramedics arrived very quickly.
"I think what they've done is disgusting. He was just a man crossing the road doing nothing wrong and his life has been taken away."
A 25-year-old local man said: "I arrived a couple of minutes after the incident and was told then that he had died.
"How can they do something like that? I couldn't leave someone lying in the road dying like that, especially an old man. I think it's just terrible. "
Anyone with information should call Longsight CID on 0161 856 1376 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

license ( if they have one) get fined and told to take a test before they drive again.
Cause death with a car, get of light, cause death by shooting you get a long sentence, what is the difference somebody has lost their life needlessly.
