Bury Council wants your help

THE public are being asked to help shape the future of their town.

Council bosses in Bury are drawing up a visionary blueprint to help assess planning applications and development proposals over the next 10 to 15 years.

Residents and businesses are being invited to have their say.

It comes as three new multi-million pound developments are expected to create 20,000 jobs. The council said it wants Bury to be a vibrant and cosmopolitan town centre.

The strategy, titled Bury But Better 2009, also wants to improve shopping, leisure and visitor attractions.

A six-week consultation has been launched and a session will run at the new Fusilier Museum on Moss Street on April 22.

Sadly Bury Council, anyone who has ever taken part in one of your laughable consultations, opposed a planning application or watched our elected representatives at work will no doubt treat this latest bit of PR with some disdain. We are consistently ignored. We consistently see party whipped stitch-ups. Wonder why people are disenchanted with the political system? Look no further than Knowsley Street.

For a '4* Excellent Council', Bury MBC are an absolute shambles. They continually fail to respond to the needs of the people within the borough. Another waste of money I fear.

First of all remember Bury is not just the town, but also a much wider metropolitan borough. Having lived in Prestwich for many years, I can testify we often got the impression we did not exist.I feel we would have been better under Manchester or Salford after reorganisation, where there is a hint of urban credibility, at least, rather than that mill town attitude up the road at Knowsley Street!

I have got to say that Bury is by far the best town regarding all the satellite towns of Manchester and is continuing to improve, a far cry from years ago when it was just another drab small northern town.

I don't know anything about the council, I'm just speaking as a visitor to the town centre.

Prestwich is the forgotten town at the southern tip of the borough. Bury MBC think that the border stops at the M60 hence the complete lack of facilities.
