A MAN who hid a loaded gun behind a pub toilet has been jailed for seven years.
Dean Anthony Kirby, 21, was caught after police searched the Throstles Nest pub in Seymour Grove, Old Trafford.
He was filmed leaving the toilets where officers found a black bag containing the gun.
A witness later told police it was Kirby's gun.
He was jailed for seven years at Manchester Crown Court Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday after he pleased guilty to possessing a firearm.
Det Insp Robert Tonge, from Trafford CID, said: "Kirby tried and failed to hide this weapon from us.
"I want to pay particular tribute to the witnesses who tipped us off that Kirby had the weapon."
Stashed
Kirby, of Telford Walk, Old Trafford, was at the pub when officers carried out their search on March 7 last year.
The bag containing the gun was stashed behind a cistern in one of the toilet cubicles.
A police firearms unit removed six rounds of ammunition. Kirby was arrested on June 20.
Mr Tonge said: "This weapon was loaded and could have seriously injured someone.
"Witnesses are crucial in eradicated gun crime from the streets of Manchester. With the continued support of the public, we will make the streets a safer place."
The arrest came as part of Operation Viceroy, set up in January 2007 to prevent gang-related violence in Trafford.
