FANS of a new ITV quiz show tipped as the next Who Wants to be a Millionaire? can now play along at home thanks to Cheshire firm Matmi.

The Colour of Money puts players under pressure as they play for big money.

The online version uses the same tension-building format as the TV show and features clips of the set, audience reactions, host Chris Tarrant and the show's theme tune.

The game contains two technology firsts. Each player can use their webcam to capture live video of them playing, which is superimposed on to the screen, putting players in the picture as if they were taking part in the real TV show.

Gamers can also take part in an online league and that week's online winner will be announced on air. The league starts over again every week with a new chance to win.

Patricia Wagstaff, director of ITV Digital Productions, said "We were asked to deliver a game that was as nerve jangling and compelling as the TV show. We are delighted with the game Matmi has created and feel it really captures the atmosphere and tension experienced by the contestants playing for big money."

Matmi boss Jeff Coghlan said: "Forward-thinking organisations like ITV have realised that they can massively increase their audiences by using an online game to give viewers a direct experience of their shows."

Matmi was established in 2001 and its 11 employees are based in Macclesfield.
