A JEALOUS dad who stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death has been jailed for life.
Brian Taylor, 29, of Chorley Old Road, Bolton, attacked Katie Summers, 24, in the lounge of her home in Farnworth while their two children were in the house.
He then took the children, aged two and three, to his mother's house and confessed what he had done.
Taylor, who was angry that Katie had been to a nightclub, had told a friend the previous day: "I feel like killing her".
He also asked his friend: "How long do you think I will get if I kill her?"
A judge ordered that he should serve a minimum of 17 years and six months after he admitted murder at Manchester Crown Court.
Taylor had been in an on-off relationship for eight years with Katie, who was also known as Katie Boardman.
Stabbed
He went to her home in Masefield Drive, Farnworth, on Thursday October 9 last year and stabbed her repeatedly.
The two children in the house were not injured and police were alerted after Taylor took them to his mother's house and told her what he had done.
Katie was found dead in the lounge of her house. Blood stained clothing was found hidden under the stairs and two fingerprints belonging to Taylor were found in blood on the door handle of the lounge.
Taylor was arrested near Bolton Parish Church. He had serious cuts to his hands and had told a man he had met while walking in the area that he had just killed his partner.
Senior investigating officer Andy Tattersall said: "Taylor stabbed Katie in a vicious attack brought on by a rage of jealousy.
"He had clearly thought about killing her and had been telling friends about it in the days leading up to her death.
"Unfortunately, their children are now going to have to grow up without a mother or a father and Taylor only has himself to blame for that.
"Knowing he will be behind bars for a long time to come will hopefully bring some closure to Katie's family."

He thought about it, told people he was going to do it, weighed up how long he thought he’d get (and knowing how absolutely pathetic the judicial system in this country is knew it wouldn’t even be 20 years never mind life!) decided it was worth it.
His family have to live with the shame, her family have to live with the grief and their kids have to try and grow up and not be mentally affected by it.
When is something going to be done about the judges in this country who sit like big fat cats and reap all the rewards without doing their job.
Absolutely pathetic

It isn't cheaper either - look at the States the appeals process (which is entirely neccessary if you're going to actually put someone to death) and it ends up costing far more to kill someone than keep them alive.
Not many people who kill plan to get caught? Do you really think murderers think "oh, I'll kill them because it's only 25 years. As long as I'm not put to death I could handle that."
