Appeal after petrol poured into home

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after petrol was poured through the letterbox of a family home.

The attack happened at around 4am on Monday 9 Feburary at the property on Mauldeth Road West in Withington.

A 36-year-old man was woken by a noise outside his front door. He went downstairs and found petrol had been poured through his letterbox.

Two children, aged 17 and 13, were also in the house at the time.

Detective Constable Kate Watkins said: "This was clearly a very distressing incident for the victim.

"Anyone prepared to pour petrol into a family home, regardless of whether it is then lit, is clearly very dangerous.

"The consequences had a fire been started could have been tragic.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have seen someone in the area in the early hours of Monday morning, or who knows who is responsible, to call police."
