POLICE have appealed for a vital witness to a death crash to come forward.
It came as the family of the pensioner who died in the accident in Chorlton-on-Medlock paid tribute to him.
Kevin Bates 69, of Lockton Court, suffered multiple injuries at the junction of London Road and Downing Street on Tuesday January 20.
A statement released by his family, including two brothers and a sister, said: "Kevin was a much loved brother to us all. He would do anything for anyone."
A 39-year old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
Police are continuing to appeal for a man who gave vital information about the identity of the driver at the time to get back in touch on 0161 856 6173.
