IT'S the coldest start to winter for 30 years and weathermen predict the freezing temperatures to continue for another few days.
But the icy weather has given amateur photographers the opportunity to capture some spectacular scenes as the winter transforms the landscapes around Greater Manchester.
The M.E.N. has invited readers to send in their pictures and a selection of images are published here.
Temperatures are expected to plummet as low as minus 6C on Monday night in some parts of Greater Manchester.
Weathermen say it is the first time since the 1970s that the region has endured such a prolonged cold snap in December and January.
The coldest night so far was New Year’s Eve when temperatures fell to minus 7.5C.
Daytime temperatures will struggle to climb above 2C for the rest of this week but forecasters say that it will become milder after the weekend.
To send your pictures, you can either use a digital camera and attach the image to an email addressed to newsdesk@men-news.co.uk or you can use a mobile phone camera and send an image as an MMS.

Not got a problem with cold icy December or January days in England but where has the sun gone in summer ?
While minus 8 degrees celsius is frigid to most residents of the U.K. in this part of the world at this time of the year it would be considered almost tropical, earlier this week i took my dogs for a walk (there enthusiasm was noticeably lacking)with the ambient temperature being minus 38c, while it was prudent to bundle up,everyone was going about there business with few problems reported.
winter arrives at the same time every year, what is the problem?,put on your big girl panties and suck it up.!
It's snowing here in the Peak District Monday 1am
What a very rude posting, Roy Boy. I'm a Mancunian who has lived in Alberta and experienced the winter weather there in all its glory. Let me tell you that it's the humidity that makes -5 in the north west of England much more unpleasant than -15 on a sunny day by the banks of the North Saskatchewan.

Roy Boy: - I really don't think there is any need to be nasty aboot people in the UK. Obviously you are used to the cold because you live in an Igloo but for us Brits we are not used to these sorts of temperatures while we're out and aboot. Eh?
'put on your big girl panties ...!'
Keep those Canadian antics firmly over there, thank you.
Yeah, Canadian antics...
I cut down trees.
I wear high heels
suspenders and a bra.

I am sure that those tough Canadians built an entire under ground city to escape the nip of winter. Montreal I think. Some of them have yet to surface.
I wear my big girl panties every day without fail but I refuse to suck it up. This is my God given right as an English Gentleman. That said, I might be prepared to suck it up for money...
Marc: a fiver and a taxi home. I'm going no higher mind, so take it or leave it.
Go on then, I'll throw in a bottle of Blue Nun.
Mr M, seeing as its you, two litres of Lambrini will suffice.
That's enough of the Canadian role play! Lambrini -- no wonder Mounties always get their man...
Hope all's well with the little ray of sunshine.
