The 34-year-old was taken to Tameside General Hospital and was said to be in a stable condition.
The incident happened as he crossed at a pelican crossing on High Street, near its junction with Kenworthy Street.
Police are appealing for witnesses to call them on 0161 856 8809 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Tameside, especially Stalybirdge, Ashton Under Lyne and Dukinfield are plagued with cars travelling too fast, loud exhausts and people using the roads as playgrounds. I don't know if they were the cause this time, but they are certainly a threat to all residents in that area and need to be dealt with.
