We couldn't resist reproducing this year's eye-popping invitation in its, ahem, unadulterated glory.
Thanks to the wonders of computer trickery, Sir Richard and his deputies Jim Battle and Val Stevens have all got stuck in to a Dukes of Hazzard theme.
Last year, they were Las Vegas showgirls, but this year they've decided to transpose their heads onto those American TV likely lads who famously tore up the roads in their sportscar The General Lee.
The Diary does wonder, though, how Sir Richard came to get the job of becoming foxy pin-up girl Daisy Duke for the occasion.
But doesn't he wear those hotpants well? Tweet

what on earth is this? if this isn't sticking up two fingers at the people of manchester then what is it?
he should be clearing his desk at this momment! not preparing to let his hair down at the council Christmas do.
he failed the people of manchester! time and time again! the only thing he gave us was the referendum and that wasn't without a fight against him!
why are the MEN playing along with this too?
How apt, dressed as a bunch of cowboys!
RESIGNATION NOW!
Come on, get a sense of humour, Richard Leese has got one, when he has to read stupid comments like these.
Most of you are like me, we live outside Manchester and come from one of the other 10 borough's, so what they do has sweet FA to do with us.
umpire 2,,
Too true whats the fuss about, As long as he has the owner of copyright permission to use their photo, there is no problem - one off there are no issues - but not on a grand scale. I think I will superimpose his head on a picture of Dick Turpin, he was a famous highway robber - not saying Mr Leese is - no way would I infer that he was out to rob the innocent road users.
A finished politician? He's managed to return Manchester to the dark "no hope" days of the 1980s - we're now going backwards. This city is desperate FOR A CHANGE.
Sadly though, as a local radio presenter recently pointed out, the Manchester media is too soft on our council!!
Leese, Bernstein & New Labour "OUT" - a new elected mayor "IN". Come on MEN, at long last hold this council to account!!

You are nothing but an apologist. We may live in the other 10 boroughs but thanks to the magic of AGMA this man impacts on our daily life.
Extract 13/11/08 - MEN
"Making his case for road charging alongside massive improvements to Greater Manchester's public transport system, he said he was prepared to stake his political career on the Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) bid and criticised opponents for their lack of ambition.
Sir Richard said: "These are the sort of people who would never have built Manchester Ship Canal, would never have made Manchester a great city, because they don't have any ambition whatsoever. I would risk it all on this referendum because we're talking about something that will have more impact on Greater Manchester than anything else I've done in the last 18 years."
A. He thinks he runs Greater Manchester
B. He staked his reputation on the bid. It is now worthless.
RESIGN and take Lord Peter Smith with you. It is time Dave Goddard or Susan Williams took control of AGMA
hows about him being on a bike riding out of town for the last time, hes a joke!!!!
umpire 2 there is a difference between a sense of humour and taking the micky out of us!
as soon as he tried to impose another tax on the 10 boroughs he made it our business!
Glad to see that my Council Tax is being put to good use...
Wow Terry Christian really was on to something after all.
In my last post I remarked upon a list of failings that Richard Leese and the City Council is responsible for - and the MEN censored/chopped them.
So the local media 'really' does "go easy" on our council!!
So him and his mates having tried their best to get us out of our little ford focuses and tiny 1.6 golfs, decides to celebrate his monumental loss by releasing images of him and his mates as the Dukes of Hazard. I mean teh show where they deliberatly wrecked cars and travelled around with the pedal to the metal without a care for the law in huge 5 litre gas gezzles.
Seems like someone has stiched him up.
thats a good point! he did stake his job on the line and he just seems to be laughing it off hoping we've forgotten what he said!!
Well said Spanner, I agree 100%. After staking his reputation on the introduction of a Congestion Charge Leese should do the decent thing & resign.
Stop this incessant hero worship right now MEN!
I'm not surprised as they run Manchester like a bunch of hillbillies.
Leese should be actively looking for work at the moment with Lord Peter Smith.
Come on folks !
Where is the Christmas spirit - goodwill to all men (women transsexuals etc.)
They even managed a Christmas truce in the trenches in World War 1
We've won and the congestion charge won't be coming back. Lets show a bit of generosity to the defeated and frankly humiliated Yes campaigners and move on to try to get a better deal than the Con Charge to improve public transport in Greater Manchester. Like it or lump it that will involve patching up the divisions and trying to present a untied front to Central Government.
And anyway Richard Leese looks quite a dish in drag.
So our taxes are no being spent on Leese's knees up.
After all the money he wasted on an inevitable NO vote he should go and go now. MEN still haven't bought him to account. WEAK
General Custards last stand

This is exactly the kind of idiotic thinking that has made Manchester a laughing stock in recent months.
So the 80% or so who voted against the CON TAX lack ambition do they ?
It's about time you did the honourable thing and resigned Mr Leese before the campaign starts to oust you at the next local election, causing you further embarrasment.
Nice to see that current hard times haven't affected the Yuletide merriment at the Town Hall.
Leese should get the boot in the Year.
I hope I don't need to remind Council staff that any wandering mitts, which start pinching hotpants, will not be tolerated by Leese.
How about a dual costume that has completely different appearances on each side?
Compare with "A Congestion charge will be bad for Manchester and it's business" and "The Congestion Charge proposal is the best thing since sliced bread".
Sorry but we can afford to have our little bit of fun now.
So every time, Manchester City Council do something, the TIF referendum will pop up in all posts.
Then all I have to say, it is about time you lot actually realise that Manchester were not the only council who agreed it would work, there was only 3 borough whom objected therefore that is why the vote came into factor.
So why don't we sack all the councils, start afresh will new order of leadership and no doubt they will not come to the people of the non-existence county of Greater Manchester.
Get a real hold of life and start living the life you deserve and not keep going on about the past.
Nice try Umpire, the guy has to go.
"So every time Leese does something, the TIF referendum will pop up in all posts."
Corrected for you Umpire. And yes, it will continue for a long time to come.
