Schoolboy killed by bus

The accident scene

A SCHOOLBOY has died after he was hit by a bus during the morning rush hour.

Rofael Butt, 15, is believed to have been on his way to school when the accident happened on the A6 Stockport Road in Longsight shortly before 8am.

The teenager lived on Britnall Avenue, Longsight, only around 150 yards from the scene of the accident at the junction of the A6 with Richmond Grove East.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

Stockport Road was completely closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and long tail-backs built up along the A6 in both directions before the road was re-opened later.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or passengers on the bus at the time of the collision to contact them on 0161 856 6173.

A terrible tragedy. Poor kid.

A terrible terrible loss to his family, so sorry for them.

But, I travel down this road every morning and regularly have to stop for people who just walk halfway accross the road and wait for cars to stop, there are plenty of crossings but they are generally ignored.

I also feel for the driver who must be just as devasted as this poor boys family.

Asdablue, you're absolutely right. The stretch of Stockport Road outside my office is a nightmare with pedestrians stepping out into oncoming traffic. I've seen three kids get hit by buses in the last year.

And they want more buses on the road!

Thoughts to the lad's family and the driver.

Why do people blame the poor kid? I see plenty of buses breaking the Highway Code as well. Let's keep an open mind until the fact are established.

This is silly, a poor life lost. Maybe he was in the wrong for not crossing at a designated area but my little sister was dragged down the road by a bus. Are the drivers not paying full attention???

I am so sorry for his family. As i live on that road i agree with asdablue and the other guy because where the accident happen there is a crossing there and a crossing guard is normally there also.

what a sad day. My heart goes out to this young boys family, just taken in a instant. Im a taxi driver in the city of manchester and see bad driving day in day out. I dont think we can judge the bus driver on the way he was driving as we dont know the truth yet. I am sure it will all come to light eventually. RIP xxx

BeanB4, PeterM, mimimimimi2007, Graham and Laura Clegg you are all an absolute disgrace implying the bus driver was at fault without any proof.

I work for Stagecoach and it is purely down to the skill and awareness of the bus drivers more people are not killed by buses on our roads. Pedestrians just walk out into the path of buses, people in their cars will risk there lives to get round the bus rather than wait ten seconds. How many times in a week do you get cut up in your car, once, twice maximum? Try thirty times a day when driving a bus.

Four people killed involving Stagecoach vehicles last 12 months, not one deemed to be the bus driver's fault, doesn't that tell you something?
