A WOMAN who was branded 'the ultimate neighbour from hell' has been jailed after breaching a noise injunction 17 times in just two months.

Nichola Reilly, 27, held rowdy parties playing R&B music, stood in the street shouting abuse at neighbours in Rowley Street, Ashton under Lyne, and even simulated sex acts as people passed by.

Her `appalling' anti-social behaviour became so bad an injunction was placed on her in September to stop her making life a living nightmare for her neighbours.

The injunction banned her from playing loud music which could be heard outside her house; making noise or being a nuisance; allowing her home to be used for parties; and harassing neighbours.

But she breached the order 17 times in just two months and New Charter Housing Trust secretly set up CCTV cameras to catch her in the act.

In one incident, Reilly and a friend of hers were filmed screaming obscenities at neighbours, rolling around the street with a bottle of alcohol and simulating sex.

The footage was taken at 5pm one day last month.

She pleaded guilty to breaching the injunction at Tameside County Court and has been jailed for nine months. The injunction was also extended for another 12 months and she agreed to end her tenancy.

District Judge Osborne viewed the footage and said Reilly had displayed 'appalling behaviour', adding that the incidents 'were gross contempt very shortly after the injunction was served'.

One woman neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "At first, I wanted her to resolve her behaviour by understanding what effect it was having on her neighbours.

"It was terrible.

"I'm so relieved the noise and nuisance has stopped, especially as the sleep deprivation was making me ill.

"Now I'm looking forward to getting on with my life.

"I am very pleased with the action that has been taken and the support from New Charter staff."

Abusive

Another resident said: "She was loud, abusive and didn't appear to care who she upset.

"We've all been young and enjoyed a good time, but her behaviour went way beyond that - she was the ultimate neighbour from hell."

Tony Powell, New Charter Homes' executive director, said: "Reilly claimed her behaviour was partly due to her excessive drinking. But we are pleased the court did not regard that as mitigation.

"She has shown a wilful disregard for her neighbours and the law.

"This is a victory for the neighbourhood and especially those residents who refused to be intimidated.

"We need the help of the many to deal with the few.

"In turn, we have put the right case to the court to stop this behaviour and remove her from the area."

and will she get housing when she's out early in 3 months? do us all a favour. ban her from housing for 12 months or whatever similar drunk drivers get

People like this ruin the lives of many. Maybe a spell in jail will do her some good. The only problem is, evicting her just shifts the problem elsewhere.

Funny thing is that people like her are top of the list to get a council property. As a single, well behaved bloke I have to have just come out of prison to get priority on the list or sleep on the streets.

I just feel so sorry for the decent people who had to put up with her bacause of the ineffective systems in place to rid people of this type of anti social behaviour. She may be gone now but why should it take so long?

Ha! What is it about people like this that make me laugh? A clear path to self destruction, only her and her alone can stop it at anytime, yet she chose to continue and is now in prison. What a carry on! And I bet she's blamed everyone but herself.

Yeh but what happens next? She is kicked out of New Charter Housing so ensd up in a private house rental and upsets those decent neighbours too. Only this time teh council won't give a toss cos its a private landlord and guess what? No one will be able to suss out where he lives because the council won't give his details out under "data protection"

Whoever let this person offend 17 times before doing something about it? Whatever happened to 3 strikes and out (or is that just for motorists)? I'm sure if I have been caught persistently dropping litter by one of the council busybodies I'd have been jailed long before the 17th offence. Someone needs to explain why the neighbours had to be subjected to such prolonged intolerable behaviour.

I hope she finds gainful employment to keep her occupied when she comes out. And perhaps Sir Alec Fergie could then give her a lift to work - as long as it's not in the rush hour.

I've got a neighbour from hell, except our neighbour is a bit more discreat and manages just to torture us. She lives in an upstairs property that's owned by the housing and we bought our flat and renovated it and are trying to sell it but it's difficult because of the nuisance this c*w causes. We've had three years of on off sleepless nights (including only 3 1/2 sleep last night and about 4 hours on Saturday night), there are men turning up at all hours of the day and night, all night parties, laminate floor being laid and then her walking round it with heels on, banging around, screaming, the list is endless, all we do is fill out forms and all they do is pull her in and tell her off, but she obviously knows they aren't doing anything about it because she just carries on. It is true that people like Reilly and the waste of space who lives above me get away with it for far too long and you can garantee if I tried to do something about it i'd get arrested with the click of your fingers.

Honest hard working folk are being plauged by these low life scum bags who couldn't care less about the nieghbours. Well done NEW CHARTER spokesman so now she'll just get a private house to rent and those residents nearby will suffer.The council will wash their hands of her, the police will continue to harrass motorists and do eff all about her. The landlord will remain absent and no one will be able to get in touch with them as "we cannot divulge their adress as it breaches data protection human rights etc etc". Her "human rights" may be violated so no one can carry out covert survillance on her without her knowledge. Residents will be expected to keep diarys (in otherwords doing the authorities dirty work for the). Live in fear of reprisals ...I am sick and tired of this countrys' attitude to low life like this. Its about time people like her were sent down for a long time.Its about time authority and government stood up for teh silent majority- hard working honest people who pay their way in life.

It would be better than the transients and drug dealers ect you would have us all live with.Its time we started to weed out this scum and allow decent people a community that will look after itself rather than theive and leach off each other.Socialist thinking isnt working we need controls back in our society. yes marc the birch and corporal punishment .there used to be a saying "Spare the rod spoil the child" and its never been so true as it is today. i can tell by how the children behave while out shopping with their parents for presents .ive heard very young children tell their parents to "F" off .your idea of a community is miles away from mine and i woulnt mind betting you work for the council or some other bleeding heart liberal dept.?

New Charter spokesperson - It would be nice to know you share information about people like this woman with all housing associations in the Greater Manchester area. I can't help but think these type of people 'fritter' around the system constantly, destroying ordinary citizens lives and causing mayhem. As for private landlords, maybe it's time to lobby for a national database solely based on undesirable tenants?

New Charter spokesperson, Ashton-under-Lyne, How did she qualify for council accommodation initially?, I thought it was for family's mainly/only, Could I take a guess a suggest it was social worker/service pressure, much like the support she will enjoy on her release, one wonders if New Charter will be forced to accommodate the poor homeless ex con!.

Choice Base Letting systems allow the accommodation on the basis of necessity - the more desperate you are the easier it is...here's to building communities!!!
