A CHARITY fundraising City fan has been banned from football grounds after he chanted anti-Jewish songs at Tottenham Hotspur players - while dressed as Scooby Doo.
Jobless Adam Wilson, 27, put on a costume of the cartoon character hoping to raise money for the Christie Hospital, a court was told.
He had wanted to help the hospital in memory of his mother, who died of cancer seven years ago.
Songs
But half an hour into the match at City's Eastlands ground on November 9 he began chanting songs at the Spurs team which referred to concentration camps and the Hitler's extermination of the Jews.
The songs were not targeting any particular players but Tottenham Hotspur traditionally has a large following among north London's Jewish community.
Stewards were alerted to the songs being chanted by Wilson and he was arrested after he left the stadium.
Wilson, of Welland Street, Openshaw, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment and was fined £100 plus £60 costs.
'Ashamed'
He was given a three-year order banning him from all grounds in England and Wales but Manchester Magistrates' Court heard that he had also been banned from the ground for life by City.
Lucy Crossland, defending, said Wilson, who has an alcohol problem, had been drinking and left the stadium of his own accord because he was `ashamed and embarrassed'.
Two City fans had asked him if he knew any Tottenham songs and he stupidly began chanting.
Magistrates told him: "We recognise your remorse and think you realised that what you did was unacceptable."

oblivious to the fact the nearly all the club's directors were Jewish. But that's Leeds for you. (Apologies for going to the game, I was invited.)

I am sorry, but although he probably needs help, the drink and stupidity go afore him. I would not feel sorry for him at all. I have seen braver 8 year old burns victims that are full of life, then some loafer who goes around fagging and drinking. I sought not to do the same when my mother died when I was 24 either.
Move on, next

But really, to get the benefit of what he says you have to suspend all sanctimoniousness.
