A GIRL of 12 is to be excluded from her school after bringing a gun into the building.
Police were called after the weapon was found at Whalley Range High School for Girls, in Manchester.
Officers were alerted just after 1.30pm yesterday and went to the school in Wilbraham Road, Fallowfield.
The gun had been brought by a pupil who had taken it from her father's house.
Officers made the weapon safe. It was an imitation firearm capable of firing pellets.
Head teacher Patsy Kane said: "An unloaded pellet gun was brought into school by a pupil. Police were alerted as soon as staff were aware of this. At no point were the girls in any danger.
"The matter is however being taken very seriously and being investigated by both the school and the police. The pupil involved has been excluded from school."
Mrs Kane said she would be recommending permanent exclusion for the pupil but this would be subject to appeal.
She added: "The incident was dealt with in a very efficient manner and letters have been sent to all parents to reassure them of that fact."
The school has 1,600 pupils - including a sixth form.
The gun was brought into the school building and the pupil was showing it to other students when a member of staff was alerted.
In August the MEN revealed that police seized 112 weapons - including 32 fake guns at schools in Greater Manchester in the last two academic years.
The cache of imitation guns included BB pellet weapons, air guns, a starter pistol and a blank firing revolver. Police also found 67 knives. The other 13 weapons included a knuckle-duster, home-made shock devices, a screwdriver, catapult, and scissors.
The school became one of the most high profile in Manchester under the leadership of Dame Jean Else. She was suspended in 2004 and eventually sacked in 2006 after allegations of nepotism.

Today I would be expelled for having an imitation missile
Are some peoples lifes so boring that they have to seize on tings like this to spice it up.
Maybe if the adults didnt treat toys like weapons then kids would appreciate that weapons aren't toys.

One of them will get you shot dead by an Armed Response Unit.
I don't get it, none of you seem in the least perturbed by the fact that a 12 year old girl is wandering around school with an imitation firearm.
You wouldn't be so flippant if the same immitation firearm, which is capable of firing pellets, had one of your kids' eyes out!! And what if it had been a real gun, would she have known the difference.

For god's sake man, it was a plastic toy! The girl would've done more damage with a pea shooter. Is it any wonder no one is taking this story seriously? As for your comment about the girl not deserving an education, why not go the whole hog and suggest a life sentence or even the electric chair.

Not the old
"What if shed taken someones eye out routine"
Whats next? the police being called out to "Make Safe" a rubber band with a paper clip attached?
How the hell do you "Make Safe" an unloaded toy pellet gun anyway ?????? you cant exectly unload it any more.
Corden of the area and conduct a controlled explosion perhaps.

What exactly did they do to make an unloaded pellet gun safe?

It does not matter whether it was a real gun or not, no one should carry guns in the public area, especially like a school. We need to learn from the mistakes that happen worldwide with shootings in schools.

In response, maybe I don't know for a fact that it was plastic but I'd ask how you're so certain that it wasn't plastic. I'd be willing to put money on it being one of those plastic 'pellet guns' that they sell in pound shops and are, as I said before, less harmful than a pea shooter.

Now will this stupid gilr get the five year sentence for being in possesion of a imititation fire arm as the law states? If not why not?

I'd say a few years in prison would be the difference.
If it's capable of being fired it can injure, that makes it a serious weapon in the wrong hands.
If someone stuck a gun in your face, would you debate the fact it was real or not?
I don't think so, maybe changing your underwear would be the first thing you do.
Get them all off the streets.
Marc (14/11/2008 at 20:09)
Hilarious! Surely she deserves nothing less than the death sentence?
Also, she's TWELVE YEARS OLD and therefore not subject to the laws that affect adults.
Keep taking the medication Lawrence, or at least wear a bib to absorb the froth.
