POLICE carried out raids across Greater Manchester this morning to crackdown on young gangsters.
As the MEN was going to press, Six people had been arrested following raids at 17 addresses in Longsight and one in Tameside just before 9am.
More arrests were expected and searches of the properties were continuing. The operation was aimed at targeting teenage gangsters before they become involved in major gangland shootings.
Officers from GMP's long-running anti-gang campaign, Xcalibre Task Force, as well as the Tactical Aid Unit, uniform officers, the Dog Unit and Police Community Support Officers, were involved in the operation.
Supt Paul Savill said: "Today we have used tactics to disrupt gangs. It is important that young people who are becoming involved in gangs are stopped now."
