THE city's airport has been voted 'Airport of the Year' at the annual British Travel Awards.
Manchester Airport was also voted second-best for business travel and best for leisure travel.
Entrants were judged on various criteria including levels of service and facilities. Winners were voted for by consumers and travel professionals.
Andrew Cornish, Manchester Airport's Managing Director, said: "We are very pleased and proud to have been presented with this award especially as it is voted for by some of the most experienced industry professionals in the travel industry."
The plaudits come after news that many long-haul transatlantic flights from the airport are to be axed owing to falling passenger numbers.

And as for the constant debacle outside with the endless queues for picking up and dropping off, not to mention the "taxi marshalls"...

It is currently under re-development so hopefully it will be nicer and have more choice when it comes to facilities.

Not an enjoyable experience at all, I have flown from T5 loads of times this year and after its teething problems I can say this is what Manchester needs.
Sell it off to a private company that will make full use of the two runways and create some order.
Let the council try and manage Manchester itself and leave transport to the experts.

I have flown into Manchester from Australia on numerous occasions & found it to be excellent. So much so that I boast to my friend about how good it is & how I wish that Sydney airport was of the same standard.
I haven't travelled to my 'home town' recently however, but surely the airport could not have deteriorated to the extent that some people are suggesting.
As for selling it off to private companies, don't you dare.

I travel extensively and often and find Manchester consistently rubbish.
T2 is bereft of services. Baggage handling is unsatisfactory. Pick up/drop off is a joke, especially T3.
T1 is ok but certainly not the best.
