FLOWERS have been left at the scene of a fatal stabbing in an alleyway in Partington.

Police conducted house to house inquiries after a 23-year-old man was found stabbed to death.

The stabbing occurred at around 2.30am on Saturday.

Officers were called to the alleyway between Cherry Walk and Cheshire Road following a report of a disturbance.

The victim had been stabbed several times and was taken to Trafford General Hospital, where he later died.

As forensic officers combed the area, people left flowers at the scene. A card read: 'We love you Bonez, from everyone' and one man said the victim was 'a good lad'.

A woman living near the scene, who did not wish to be named, said: "I heard some shouting late on. I looked out of the window. There seemed to be a fight going on but I couldn't see much. Groups of teenagers always congregate roud there. There's always noise or something going on."

Detective Superintendent Geoff Wessell of Greater Manchester Police said: "Inquiries are at an early stage at the moment, but we are appealing to anyone with information to contact us."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7691 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
