UNITED star Wayne Rooney has been cautioned by police after spitting at a photographer.
It has also been claimed the striker has been forced to write a letter of apology to victim Lee Simmons.
Rooney, 22, spat on the photographer's back as he left the Hakkasan Chinese restaurant in Hanway Place, near Oxford Street, on July 29, with his wife Coleen.
The footballer was interviewed under caution after the incident.
In law, deliberately spitting at someone is an offence of common assault.
According to reports, Rooney first turned up at the police station yesterday morning but was sent away again because he did not bring the letter of apology agreed as part of the settlement.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "A 22-year-old man attended a central London police station by prior arrangement.
"The man received a caution for common assault in relation to an incident which occurred in Hanway Place."

Refusal to let you move until they get your photo, isn't that unlawful imprisonment or something similar.
