AN 80-year old woman who was badly injured when she was robbed in Bolton town centre two months ago, has died. Mary Porter was taken to hospital with a broken arm, after a thug pulled her over and stole her handbag in broad daylight, as she was walking to her flat in Paderborn Court on August 6.
She had been receiving treatment at the Bolton Royal Hospital since the incident, but died there. The results of a post mortem have been inconclusive and further tests will now need to be carried out to find the cause of death. Nobody has been arrested in connection with the robbery, but a police investigation remains open, and officers are following up a number of lines inquiry.
Detective Inspector Andy Cunliffe said: "Mary's death is a real tragedy, and has devastated her family. We are determined to do everything we can to find the man who robbed her, but we really need your help as she was never able to give us a full description of her attacker.
"Mary had just got off a bus on Moore Lane to walk to her flat on Paderborn Court. It was broad daylight, and somebody might have seen the man following her on his bike. "I also want to appeal to anyone who might know this robber to come forward. Think of Mary's family, and do the right thing."
