Woman fined over roaming dog

A WOMAN who let her dog roam free on the streets has been fined.

Linda Jones, 38, from Burnage, was found guilty in her absence after she failed to attend a hearing at Manchester magistrates court.

She was fined £100 and ordered to pay £50 costs. The court was told that a council dog warden spotted her German shepherd wandering freely along Western Circle, Burnage, on July 11. The warden followed it to her home on Ascot Parade, where she admitted the dog belonged to her. The council said it posed a traffic and health hazard and was free to foul. Jones was issued an £80 fixed penalty notice but the council said she failed to pay. Coun Paul Andrews said: "Dogs being left to freely wander around city streets and estates cause a huge problem for residents. As well as making an area look unsightly, they can cause concern to members of the community, not to mention a serious health hazard. "The vast majority of Manchester's dog owners are responsible individuals."

Simple if this woman fails to pay her fines,just make her do unpaid work for a month then she still has to pay and if she dosnt make her pay double until the fine gets higb then send the bailifs in.No wonder our streets stink with dog dirt.

There's a stray doberman wandering around near my flat and it did a poo on our grass...dirty animals!

If I had the time I'd follow it as well and tell the appropriate authorities etc!!

not even bothering to attend the hearing is an indication of the interest these types have in the law. As I have said before, the only seems to apply to you if you choose to let it - ignore it and it often just goes away.

I've never understood why people keep any breed of dog in their home when they are all capable of killing people of any age. Their homes stink and are infested with fleas and their clothes and cars stink also. The streets and public recreational areas are infested with their filth and are also a danger to the public from attack by these hounds so what possible use on earth do dogs serve except to satisfy the vanity of the people that fawn upon them. How many deaths by attack from lions are reported in this country ? None, because the public are banned from keeping these dangerous creatures and it's about time the same law was applied to dogs. They should all be destroyed and outlawed forever in this country or we will continue to read more of these terrible deaths by attack from dogs.

i agree.they are dirty and full of hairs and i also do'nt know why people have them in their homes, even in the bed! a dog does its buisness, and then goes in and sits on the sofa or carpet. yuk! the population should be controlled i think and not everyone should be allowed to own dogs, there are two very nasty looking pitbulls 7 doors from me and though they are on a chain im always wary to take my little girl past that gate as they always growl and bark and sem desperate to get out and bite anyone..if any dog hurt my child i would batter it with my hockey stick! dog lovers who disagree, well tough!!

If dogs were licenced the same way cars are people would be a lot more responsible. It is possible to chip a dog at it's first visit to the vet & place the responsibility on it's owner to update the information held on file if the dog goes to a new home. That would cut down on future strays & abandoned dogs.
