A PENSIONER killed in a hit and run has been named.
Dorothy Wade, 89, from Stockport, was hit on Turves Road in Heald Green at 10am yesterday.
She was taken to Stepping Hill hospital where she later died. Witnesses have described the car which drove off without stopping as blue and similar in size to a Nissan Micra or Peugeot.
A post mortem on Ms Wade was due to take place later today.
Sgt Jon White, from the Road Policing Unit, hit out at the driver.
He said: "It's difficult to comprehend how anyone can drive off from the scene of an accident, leaving an elderly woman dying in the road.
"The collision occurred on a busy route in broad daylight and I am certain someone would have seen something.
"I'd also appeal directly to the driver to hand themselves in, as we will not stop until they have been identified."
Anyone with any information should call Stockport CID 0161 856 9740 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

The driver got out of his car, walked towards my Mum, turned around and got back in his car and drove off.
She was left flat out in the road on her own for about 15 min until a young guy stopped to help.
She made a full recovery but was always very nervous afterwards when crossing a road.
What kind of person would do such a thing. I think they are scum.
