A PARROT which speaks with an Oldham accent has gone missing - and its owners are so upset they are offering a £500 reward for its safe return.

The Congo African Grey parrot named Billy is known for mimicking voices, especially female ones. He belongs to the Faulkner family of Stoneleigh Road, Springhead, Oldham.

Lee Faulkner, 37, his wife Ayshea, 35, and their 12-year-old daughter, Melissa, are appealing for Billy's safe return. Ayshea said:

"It sounds crazy but Billy is like one of my children.

"I've been to every pet shop in the area and no one has handed him in. I'm desperate to have him back."

Lee, an HGV driver, believes Billy has sought shelter in someone's home as he's not keen on the cold weather.

He said: "£500 is a lot of money, but it's difficult to put a price on something as special as Billy."

When Billy is not in his cage he has free rein to fly around the house.

He escaped when the family left the back door open.
