FOUR men were arrested in raids early today as part of a police operation to crack down on violent incidents involving groups of youths in Moss Side.
The four, aged between 17 and 20 are being held in custody on suspicion of violent disorder.
Three women were also arrested for breach of the peace for obstructing police.
The arrests follow a number of recent disturbances in which youths in the Moss Side area have been involved in violent incidents, some of which have involved violence towards police officers.
Superintendent Nadeem Butt said: "This operation is a direct response to threats of violence and general intimidation towards members of the community and also towards my officers.
"We will not tolerate violent behaviour in Moss Side and we will prosecute anyone who threatens or uses such behaviour. Today's operation, which is supported by community leaders, sends a strong message to anyone involved in this sort of criminality that it will not be tolerated and if you are involved in violent behaviour we will take positive action.
"If you do have any information about these incidents, or any concerns about activity in the area, then please contact police immediately, anonymously if you wish."
