A 50lb Eccles cake baked in Eccles was officially declared the world's largest in 2001, but a monster from Martin's bakery, in Newton Heath, Manchester, is expected to beat it.
The giant cake took three hours to bake and the skill of eight people to make.
As well as 10.5kg of butter and 20kg of puff pastry, 25kg of currant filling was used.
The cake will go on show at the Salford Festival Food Fayre outside Swinton Civic Centre on Saturday with a public competition to guess its weight.
It will then be divided into up to 400 portions and distributed to locals by Age Concern.
Ian Martin, production manager for Martins Foods, which has shops in Swinton, Eccles, and Prestwich, said: "Our team is thrilled by the invitation to create the world's largest Eccles cake.
"We are looking forward to making the Guinness Book of Records."
