Deer attack 'absolutely disgusting'

Young William Holehouse found the dead deer
TWO yobs who beat a pair of deer to death have been branded 'sick' by residents who found the dead animals.

The youths were seen punching, kicking and stamping on the Muntjac deer in Clively Avenue, Clifton.

RSPCA officials are investigating the 'horrific' attack and say the animals may have been hunted with dogs before their death.

It is not yet known where the deer came from, but Muntjac deer populations are known to be rising, and the animals can survive in small areas of woodland on the edges of cities.

The spot where the deer were found is on the edge of Lower Irwell Valley Improvement Area, an area of green wasteland between Salford and Bury populated by foxes, rabbits and squirrels.

A worried passer-by called the RSPCA, who sent officers to the scene.

Duncan Lyons, 36, who lives on the street, said: "It's absolutely disgusting - whoever's done it wants locking up. You'd have to be very sick to treat an animal like this."

Mr Lyons said his son, William, 10, found the bodies in black bin bags in the communal gardens of the flats where they live.

A 50-year-old local man, who asked not to be named, told the MEN: "It's getting very rough round here and it doesn't surprise me that this is happened."

"A dead deer was found here a couple of years ago and the people who did it are still walking around. It could well be them who have done it again.

"They beat the animals to death for no reason whatsoever. People know who they are but it's safer to keep your mouth shut."

Inspectors at the animal charity have described the attack as 'horrific' - and confirmed they believe the culprits are local teenagers. They are appealing for information in the hope of prosecuting the thugs, who were wearing tracksuits and trainers.

Insp Natalie Avery said: "This was a very distressing sight. Both deer must have suffered unimaginably in the last few moments before their death.

"This is a horrific example of wildlife crime. Attacks like this are becoming more and more common, and we're keen to put a stop to it in any way we can."

When inspectors hurried to the scene, they discovered the dead bodies of the deer - an adult male and a young male.

The pair had injuries that suggested they had been hunted with dogs before their deaths. Muntjac are the oldest known deer, first appearing between 15m and 35m years ago. Hunting deer with dogs is illegal under the Hunting Act 2004.

Insp Avery added: "If anyone knows anything relating to this, or is aware of similar incidents of cruelty, I would urge them to contact the RSPCA immediately. The sooner we find who were responsible for this sickening attack the better."

Anyone with information can call the RSPCA's 24-hour cruelty and advice line in confidence on 0300 1234 999.

It constantly dismays me at the negativity of the news that comes out of Salford. Whilst the majority of Salfordians of all ages are decent law abiding citizens there is a minority, and again of all ages, who are "hell-bent" on violence, cruelty and destroying the quality of life for the majority. Sadly, if the thugs who committed this barbaric act are caught they will probably receive nothing more than a slap on the wrist which sends out the wrong message to all the other thugs considering acts of violence.

They are not sick, they are pure scum. They have no place in society. And before you do-gooders start rattling on about the Royal Family deer hunting, I'm yet to see a picture of the Queen squaring up to a deer and battering it to death with her fists and feet! When that day happens, I'll be at the front of the mob outside Buck House!

What degree of mentality causes somebody to inflict pain, suffering and detah on a defenseless animal??? I think the word defenseless has a lot to do with it. If found the completely mindless bullies who did this should be set upon by a pack of wolves, see how they like it when the odds are turned against them. Absolutely sickening. As for the locals and neighbours, they will know who did it, get some backbone and inform the police, its the only way to deal with the problems you are facing.

If caught and identified publicly they will be receiving more than a slap on the wrist.

Bejjy-I don't blame you for escaping to Malta-I'm Salford Born and Bred and I hate the fact I am forced to share the same breathing space as poeple who would be so savage and unkind. Its just not humane is it?treating a deer like that-or anything for that matter.

More useless, superflous sub humans who need to be exterminated

Stretford Born Blue, I agree with you, they were seen so somebody knows who these scum are, people will have overheard them talking also. Their parents or friends are protecting them and are therefore just as bad as them

Ha ha some people are actually defending deer hunting! Do you think it's always a quick painless death? Yobs or toffs it's all the same to the animals. 100 brownie points for getting the phrase do gooders in though.

Should be jailed for 10 years. Simple as. Time to get tough on filth like this.

If the locals know who did this, and want to pass the names on to the police or RSPCA, then surely they can do this anonymously? Scum like this cannot be allowed to get away with this sort of thing. It's time that they were sent scurrying for cover instead of being allowed to strut around the streets doing what they like.

Words cannot describe what needs to be done to these people. Name and Shame them

I can't add anything to the comments about these scum and the people who know who they are; but with regards to the poll at the side of this article ref animal cruetly - I think we'd all like to see stiffer penalties doled out (and not just on the statute books) not just to those convicted of animal cruelty, but to convicted criminals in general.

The only way of stopping this sort of thing is to make an example of these morons.

Beat them to death.

Take the scum bags down to Dunham Massey and see how they cope in the ring with a fully grown deer.

They'd have antlers stuck where the sun don't shine.

"They beat the animals to death for no reason whatsoever. People know who they are but it's safer to keep your mouth shut." ...

If people really do know who they are and do not speak up they are part of the problem. When scum like this are allowed to get away with crimes because of fear of reprisals then what was the point of fighting Adolf Hitler and his supporters!

the answer to this is simple, they want to practise their skills in unarmed combat, find them and send them to afghan or iraq.....i bet they would nt last 2 minutes without brown stains in their pants.....they are scum ....and i ve no doubt in a few years they ll have escalated to humans

This area is getting worse. My Gran used to live just off Cliveley and I hated her living there. The Kids have no respect and with dosser parents it's no wonder. Something needs doing to the youth of today to stop this now. I have brought my daughter up to have respect for all living creatures, to the point where she won't even kill a fly.

These kids that have done this will kill a person in later life, and countless other animals in the mean time. We need to start bringing back capital punishment. It may be the only way to stop this kind of thing from happening. The government need to make a stand and get the scum off our streets, once and for all.

Of course these yobs are sick, but what about the hunters (they are still at it, they don't care care a damm about the law). It is just as sick for awful dogs to tear these beautiful animals to bits.
Still I an comforted by the fact that one day they will face our Lord and will be asked why they killed his creation for FUN, not for food but FUN. They will not be able to answer and I am sure He will turn his face away and they will be cast into eternal damnation.

After hearing this on the news last night, I couldn't sleep. I cried for the deer wondering what pain they must have suffered. I don't know how any human being can kick an animal to death while it was screaming out in pain. If I got hold of them I would tie them up, and throw stones at them till they were dead. These scallies are evil animals, and I hope someone will do that to them when they are old and fragile. The animals have a right to be here more than we do. I say what goes around comes around.

It's time we brought back hanging in this country. I'm sick and tired of constantly hearing about scally scum murdering and terrorising our society in this manner. These swaggering evil low-lifes would be swinging from a noose if I had my way.
