SMALL voluntary and community groups across Trafford are being encouraged to step forward for a new pot of government cash.

The Grassroots Grants scheme, which declared itself open for business last week, has almost £20 million of funding to offer non-profit organisations, whether they want the cash for new sport kits, coaching volunteers or to give community halls a fresh lick of paint.

The money is being distributed throughout the borough by the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester.

Organisations can apply for grants of between £250 and £5,000.
