Man injured in car-jacking

A MAN was repeatedly punched in the face by two masked men before they stole his £17,000 Renault Clio Sport in the latest terrifying carjacking in Greater Manchester.

The 24-year-old was attacked after getting out of the vehicle outside a house on Thornley Lane North, Denton, in broad daylight.

The thugs confronted him after jumping from bushes and demanding the keys to the car, which he bought about six weeks ago.

The men also snatched a chain from his neck before speeding off in the distinctive blue vehicle, registration MM08 XNX, towards Reddish Lane.

There has been a 'disturbing trend' in car-jackings across Greater Manchester in recent years.

Violent thieves have smashed their way into homes armed with weapons, including guns and knives, and demanded keys.

They have also attacked drivers as they get into their cars and used canes through letterboxes to hook keys left on hall tables.

Alarms

It is said that sophisticated alarm systems have made it more difficult for thieves to steal cars without the keys.

Last month a gang of gun-toting carjackers viciously attacked a 37-year-old man outside his Wigan home then drove off in his luxury £75,000 Bentley Continental GP Coupe. Police called it a 'planned' robbery.

In June an armed carjacker pointed a gun at the head of a 58-year-old woman driver at traffic lights at the junction of Chester Road and Jackson's Lane, Hazel Grove, Stockport, and ordered her out of the Honda vehicle.

Earlier this year a 66-year-old man was shot at in Freetown Close, Moss Side, after his son chased away two men trying to steal his car.

A 26-year-old woman was punched in the face by three men who stole her Audi A3 outside her home in Sale.

And businessman Stefan Olsberg was carjacked in Middleton after being confronted by two hooded thugs armed with a car jack. His car was recovered because it was fitted with a tracking device.

A police spokesman urged motorists not to put up a fight if they are carjacked.

He said: "If you are unfortunate enough to become a victim of a car related robbery don't offer any resistance but try to remember as much detail as possible about the offenders and the circumstances of the incident."

He also advised motorists to lock all doors if they feel at risk, to be aware of surroundings when returning to a vehicle and only to open remote locking when they are at the vehicle.

You cant have anything these days, work hard for a nice car and this is what you get. My advice is to play them at there own game and keep a weapon in your car at easy reach!

LittleMancMinx: I probably with a lot of people somewhat agree with your comment. The only downside being is that if you hit this sort of person with a weapon, they would have you prosecuted and you end up before a judge on an assult with a weapon charge then the scum who tried to pinch your car ends up the poor victim and you end up the villian. Villian's are well clued up on the law and are very clever to backfire it against the law abiding folk.

Some say we have got one of the best legal systems in the world-but our legal system seems to protect the thug rather than the victim. Best legal system in the world. Don't make me laugh.

It wont be long before honest, hard working car buyers are arming their cars like south africans ...flame throwers in the sills and automatic gun ports in the door skins.
The people committing these crime don't deserve anything short of death or maiming.

We should have cars like they have in South Africa if someone approaches who is going to carjack you just press a button and flames come from under the car just enough time to get away.

Keep a weapon in your car.If used you would be facing aJudge and jury. The victim has no rights.Sad.

Sad as it sounds, time to invest in some pepper spray and let these scum balls have it!

Jako - mace sprays are illegal but you can get them on the internet. That's all I'll say on the matter : )

my daughter was advised (by a WPC) to carry a small bottle of perfume or lacqer as a legal alternative to mace.

Unfortunately, it is the "tough on crime" idiots that have put us in this position.

The more that politicians give in to their calls for the carrying of guns, knives, etc. to carry tougher sentences, the more vulnerable the general public becomes.

Littlemancminx: I agree with you but I also wonder if I could live with using a weapon meant to harm or even kill. I know the only way I could do it is if I don't see their face.

I wonder what the penelty is in s.Africa for car jacking.
I do know if you killed someone with the flame from under your car you will be arrested yourself. Saw it on a documentry

My advice is NOT to carry and use a spray of water mixed with West Indian pepper chilli sauce against such muggers. As that could be very painful and distracting for a scummy thief. It could be hours before they open their eyes again and stop screaming. Just don't do it!
