A MAN was pinned to the ground and had part of his ear bitten off during a night out in Manchester.

The 22-year-old and two friends were walking along Mosley Street, near to St Peter's Square, when it happened at 3.30am on Sunday.

The man's attacker was standing on the pavement with two others. He shouted at the victim and punched him in the face.

He was knocked to the ground. The attacker then pinned him to the ground and bit off part of his left ear.

Detectives have launched an investigation.

Det Con James Slack, from Grey Mare Lane CID, said: "This man was subjected to a sickening and entirely unprovoked attack, which has left him with lasting injuries.

"This was a violent incident and I would appeal to anyone that may have witnessed anything, or, more importantly, anyone who may know who attacked this man, to contact the police.

"Please do not cover up for whoever is responsible."

The man's attacker was white, about 24 and about 5ft8ins. He had an average build and short, dark hair. He was wearing a dark-blue shirt.
