A 17-YEAR-OLD boy was found hanged by his girlfriend during a family holiday in Greece.
David Bakewell, of Turton Heights, in Bradshaw, Bolton, was found dead by Dulcie Piotrowski, 16, and one of her friends the morning after a night out in the resort of Faliraki on the island of Rhodes.
It is understood that the couple had argued before David went to bed in the self-catering apartment the three were staying in.
Dulcie, a trainee hairdresser from Halliwell, Bolton, and her friend couldn't rouse David in the morning.
Moments later, they saw him hanging in his bedroom after looking through a window.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dulcie's mother Beverley said: "They were a great couple and were made for each other.
"Dulcie is just trying to keep going. David was lovely and bubbly and full of life. This was the last thing you would expect to happen.
"They had been having a great time. We all thought the world of him and it is just a tragedy.
"I counted on him being my son-in-law. I could not see them ever being apart."
Army
David, a former pupil at Turton High School in Bolton, was due to join the Army and was preparing to serve at the Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire later this year.
Dulcie, a former pupil at Cannon Slade School in the town, met him two years ago in Rhodes.
Dulcie was on a two-week break on the island with her mother, her mother's partner and her friend.
It is understood that David met up with the group for the last week.
Beverley said she was at a loss to explain his death and said she did not know what they argued about.
She said: "He was excited about the Army. He was really into it but he was not looking forward to leaving Dulcie.
"It is hard to know what to say. We do not know what has gone on but Dulcie found him in the morning.
"There was nothing they could do to save him."
David leaves two older brothers. His parents Richard and Diana were too upset to talk.
More than 650 of David's friends have paid tribute to him on the social networking website Facebook.
Separate tributes have also been paid on the website gonetoosoon.org.
David's body remains in Greece.

I seem to have known quite a few people who have taken their own life. To be honest you would not have known it would happen.
That is what many will be feeling today. It is as if an unused path in the brain has suddenly been found. One that is followed, against all other logical reasoning.
Not much help I know, RIP David.

For the records the resort in which this tragedy occurred is not Faliraki but a far quieter resort loved by families on the island of Rhodes called Pefkos.
