The four hooded men raided the Old House at Home on Burton Road, late on Thursday night, when they threatened bar staff with wooden staves and a baseball bat.
Police said they went upstairs to get the manager from his living quarters where his young son was asleep at the time, forced him to open the safe, and took a substantial amount of cash.
As they ran from the door of the pub, customers began hurling glasses at them, and one of the raiders dropped the baseball bat he was carrying.
All four men were wearing dark clothing, dark gloves and balaclavas, and one was black. They were last seen running along Burton Road and onto Chatham Grove.
Anyone who witnessed the robbery or saw people acting suspiciously near the pub is asked to call West Didsbury CID on 0161 856 6090 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Don't they know these hooded low-life sadistic drug-addled good-for-nothings have got human rights? They should be able to carry out their foul thuggish acts without such dangers and hinderances. I hope the Police will be giving these pub-goers a severe ticking-off. And I wouldn't at all be surprised. Perhaps the robbers should be invited to tea with the new Chief Constable.
