THE mother of Moors Murder victim Keith Bennett has criticised the `disgusting' decision to use an image of Myra Hindley to promote London in the run-up to the next Olympics.
Marcus Harvey's controversial nineties' portrait of Hindley, made from children's handprints, was shown in a video produced by tourism body Visit London, and screened at a London 2012 event in Beijing attended by Gordon Brown and London's mayor Boris Johnson.
Winnie Johnson's son Keith was abducted and killed by Hindley and Ian Brady in 1964 and his body has never been found.
Mrs Johnson said: "Whenever they dig out that picture of Hindley it sends shivers down my spine and the fact it's made from children's handprints just kills me.
"When that picture first came out I was invited to go and see it in London, but I couldn't bear to go in the room where it was. If I'd have seen that picture up close I would have put their windows in.
"To use this image to promote the Olympic Games, to send this image all over the world, is disgusting. I watched the Olympics from beginning to end and thought it was wonderful, and that if I got the money I would go to 2012. I won't now, because of this.
"It seems silly anyway - because Myra Hindley is a Manchester woman, and nothing to do with London. Maybe that's why it's happened, because those in London don't know how strongly Manchester people feel about this.
"Just last week Brady was in the paper and it seems like every anniversary, every bank holiday, one of them pops up. I'm still a victim, suffering left and right."
Mrs Johnson now plans to write to Visit London, and Jacqui Smith, who has previously assured her the authorities are committed to finding Keith's body.
Visit London says the image, one of a number of artworks seen in the footage, was shown only briefly in the three minute video, which they claimed had been used many times before to tourism insiders.
But the use of the image, which was vandalised when on display at the Royal Academy in 1997, was strongly condemned. A spokesman for Boris Johnson said he `was deeply concerned' the image had been shown.
Meanwhile, Downing Street press officers described it as `poor taste'.
Tom Brake, the Liberal Democrats' Olympic spokesman, has described the use of the image as a `regrettable choice', while Tory Ann Widdecombe said it was `utterly extraordinary'.
Gorton-born Hindley died in 2002 at the age of 60. She and Brady murdered five children in the early 1960s and buried their bodies on Saddleworth Moor.
Visit London said they would withdraw the video with `immediate effect' if any offence had been caused.

We should reenact the Battle of Agincourt, Battle of Culloden, The Battle of Hong Kong, The Crusades,The Charge Of The Light Brigade, Rorke's Drift, The Battle of Trafalgar, Waterloo, Siege of Khartoum, D Day landings and a fly by Spitfires, Hurricanes and Lancaster Bombers to celebrate the Battle of Britain.
The world would really be impressed by this instead of the monster Hyndley.

there are so many other lovely artifacts and art work in the uk that this picture is really just unnecessary.
How can a photo portrait be art anyway???
the artist has copied from a photo with a collarge of children's handprints. a picture drawn from an artists imagination or realife is more artwork.
