TWO people have died and 10 taken to hospital treatment after road accidents in Greater Manchester at the weekend.
An 18-year old man died when the Volvo S70 he was driving mounted a kerb and hit a tree on Ashton Old Road, Openshaw, Manchester.
The accident happened near the junction with Turton Old Road at 10.30pm on Friday. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his front-seat passenger - also an 18-year old man - was taken to hospital with serious head and neck injuries.
A 17-year old man in the back seat suffered cuts and bruises.
In another accident, an elderly pedestrian died in hospital after he was hit by a Vauxhall Astra in Stockport.
The man suffered serious injuries following the accident on Manchester Road, Reddish, at about 8.50pm on Saturday.
In Eccles four people needed hospital treatment after a Mini Cooper left the road and smashed into a wall in Green Lane, Patricroft. Firefighters had to cut two people free following the accident at about 7.45pm on Friday.
A fire crew in Ashton under Lyne found four people suffering minor injuries after a two vehicle collision involving a black cab and Citroen Saxo near the junction of Manchester Road and Lord Sheldon Way early yesterday morning.
Firefighters gave the casualties first aid before they were taken to hospital for treatment.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision in Openshaw to contact them on 0161 856 3573.
