The Manchester-based cycling hero failed to claim his third gold medal in Beijing in the Madison relay event.
Wiggins was a member of Britain's triumphant team pursuit event yesterday and has earlier won a medal with teammate Chris Hoy.
He has now won a total of six Olympic medals - equal to the number achieved by Sir Steve Redgrave.
Wiggins, 28, from Chorley, secured his second gold of the Games earlier today in the men's team pursuit - smashing the world record in the process.
His wife Cath, was in Beijing to watch her husband finish eighth in the gruelling 50km Madison event, with Argentina claiming gold.
The cycling star has come back from a turbulent year. His estranged father, Gary, died earlier this year in Australia after reportedly battling alcohol addiction.

The one thing about this article that annoys me is that this is the same Manchester City Council who would not allow Manchester united to have a Manchester City Centre homecoming after doing the double!!!
I think the Council need to take a long hard look at themselves and the way they treat the footballing fans of manchester (For the record i am a City Fan) as it seems the message they are sending is that they are sending is that manchester united fans do not deserve a victory parade whilst Olympians do???
I am sorry to bring this up at a really fantastic time for our olympians but as soon as a read what the Council are planning the observation jumped straight out at me!!!
