MOTORISTS faced rush hour delays on the M60 this morning.
Junction 21 of the motorway, near Chadderton, was closed for almost eight hours after the body of a man was found in the carriageway.
Police were called to the site shortly after 12.30am after the man was seen falling from a bridge. The junction was closed while officers dealt with the incident and it was reopened at 8.20am. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

when an incident like this occurs, there is certain procedures that need to be followed. firstly to establish whether there are any suspicious circs, whether anyone else has been involved, whether any weapons have been used or disposed of nearby etc etc. different departments of gmp are involved ie cid, scenes of crime etc and these investigations take time, then they have to wait for undertakers to remove body but next steps cannot be taen until the previousone has been fully scrutinised. just imagine the complaints if the police missed something and passed it off as a suiide when it had actually been a murder? the muck would hit the fan then. i'm sure if it was someone you knew, you would expect it to be investigated to its fullness rather than a couple of 'measurement and snapshots'
ex pc gmp!

Well what about the aftermath? Once the investigation was taken care of, the carriageway had to be cleaned. The body was dragged for over 3oo yards. The road had to be washed down. I could be a lot more graphic but I have to consider the other readers.
So please, unless you know what's involved try to be a little more sympathetic.. I was there, it wasn't nice for us, and it sure wasn't pleasant for those forced in to this unfortunate situation. My thoughts go to them..

Some people completely miss the point. Like the people that send 2 ambulances to an incident, or those that send 30 police to sit and watch a football match when 1 would have been enough. How much more do we need to spend on public services and procedures. Its killing the country.
Next somebody will be posting that GMP are under resourced and that is why we have the second worst police force in the UK.

Some of the ignorant and callous comments from several contributors on here, are beneath contempt.
I pity you.

i have noted your comments on too many police at football mathces before so again if you think you can control 70,000 people at a united match on your own then again, go ahead, join the police and do it!!

Do you work for the emergency services, or indeed for any type of emergency planning dept. You seem quick to criticise the ambulance and police resources, as somebody has said already - if you can do better....
