Raiders rob post office

Machete wielding att
DETECTIVES investigating an attempted armed robbery have released CCTV images taken during the raid.

Two men brandishing a hammer and a machete struck at the post office on Stockport Road, Romiley.

They demanded cash from the postmaster and postmistress and tried to smash the security screens before fleeing empty handed.

The pair, who were wearing dark clothes and balaclavas, escaped in a blue Volkswagen Golf.

Det Con Philip Hargreaves, of Stockport CID, said: "The CCTV images recovered clearly show the intent of the offenders, who tried to force their way behind the counter of the post office.

"Thankfully no one was injured, however the type of weapons used and the level of force shown in the attempted robbery demonstrates how dangerous these individuals are."

Anyone with any information on the raid, which took place at 10am on August 6, is asked to call Stockport CID on 0161 856 9840 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. The post office is offering a substantial reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible.

These people are clearly victims of society, and need help. Prison and punishment will only make them worse.

That's real claptrap isn't it? But it is the official viewpoint.
