The community hall in Goodman Street, Harpurhey, is used by hundreds of local people for public meetings, social groups and keep fit classes. It is also used by the local primary school.
But its future looked uncertain because of urgent repair work needed to keep the building safe.
The Trinity and District Residents Association, which represents around 700 local homes and has used the centre for almost a decade, has now secured a £9,000 grant from Manchester council to allow them to carry out essential work and keep the hall open.
Secretary, Carlos Figueriedo, said: "The hall is in a bad state of disrepair. Our ultimate aim is to apply for a National Lottery grant to completely renovate it and bring in new facilities but that can take a few years. This is wonderful news because it means we can now carry out structural repairs and keep it open for the community in the meantime." Tweet

Why not ask the community for skilled workers to do the jobs? that way you dont have to pay for the labour to maintain your community centre. They do this sort of thing in other countries.
