Return to Iraq: A new dawn
Fusilier Mark Deaville, 20, from Oldham, is part of the armoured Strike Battle Group based at the main base in Basra.
The unit of infantrymen, from 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, is poised to respond to threats and are responsible for counter indirect fire (idf) and preventing weapons coming across the Iranian border into Iraq.
Fus Deaville has been in the army for over three years and also served in Iraq in 2005. He said: “We're not on the ground as much this time. Then, it used to be everyday and it was more threatening. Obviously what we've been doing out here is working. I don't think we need as many troops as we have anymore.”
