TRAFFORD’S parks are set to benefit from a windfall of over £55,000.
The council and parks’ ‘friends’ groups have been awarded £55,284 in the latest round of funding from Greening Greater Manchester, which will be used for a wildflower meadow, education sessions for children, a new sports area and much more.
Councillor Jonathan Coupe, executive member for the environment, said: "This is very good news, and much deserved thanks go to council staff, councillors and the friends’ groups who work tirelessly to maintain and improve our parks and green spaces.
"The funding will enable a lot of exciting projects to be introduced, hopefully enticing more people to visit our much-loved parks and helping to make Trafford a greener
borough."
Moss Park Action Group will get £3,450 to plant a wildflower meadow in the park with the help of local schools, and £4,855 will be allocated to a community planting of a triangular flower bed by the Friends of Walkden Gardens.
A sports area will be built in Walton Park in Sale for five-a-side football, costing £7,097, and a wildlife habitat worth £20,000 will be created at Navigation Road.
Other cash payments include £3,105 allocated for a wildlife meadow in Woodsend Park, and £15,000 set aside for a new garden in an under-used area of Walkden Gardens known as Miss Cordingley’s Garden.
