And another woman was left shocked and upset just over two hours later when a man armed with a knife grabbed her from behind and wrenched her handbag from her arm.
The first attack took place as the woman was walking along Egerton Road in Chorlton at 9.40pm last night . Fainting with the shock after being threatened with her life, she fell to the floor hitting her head. It is thought the man intended to mug the woman but was so shocked by what happened that he left empty handed.
In the second attack a man with a Jamaican accent pounced on a woman as she walked along Mauldeth Road West in Chorlton just after midnight.
Police say they do not know at this stage whether the two attacks are linked.
