Return to Iraq: A new dawn
WARRANT Officer 1 Regimental Sergeant Major Paul Greenwood has earned his military stripes. The 37-year-old soldier, from Prestwich, is serving his 16th tour with the Army.
As regimental sergeant major he is the most senior soldier in his Royal Corps of Signals unit which is based at the main base in Basra and responsible for providing the communications infrastructure that supports the Army's operation in Basra.
Married to Sarah and father of Jack Paul, 13, he said: "We have a big task to do.
"It's fast and furious out here but the way the guys handle it is quality.
"When they're busy they're not thinking about home or what their wife's up to.
"I was last in Iraq two years ago. It's reassuring to see how different the situation is now. If a quieter tour means we stop losing people it's got to be worth the money we're throwing at it."
