FOUR friends have custom-built a buggy which they hope will hit the mark on the golf course and make them winners on a TV show.

The pals created a buggy which will not only transport you to the tee but take the shot for you as well.

Mechanics Adam Beard and Peter Lees, of PL Vehicles, joined forces with their friends Steve Wilkes and Paul Geoghan, of Broadbents Scrapyard, Oldham, to take part in the hit Channel 4 show Scrapheap Challenge.

The team were given a brief to create a golf-playing vehicle out of scrap metal and junk, then use it to compete against other teams from across the country.

Adam, 28, said: "I was watching the show on telly and thought, 'I could do that'. I applied through the website and they contacted us.

"We thought it was a bit of fun really, a good experience and one that's made us even better friends."

Their creation takes the unlikely form of a Suzuki Vitara with its back chopped off and replaced with an extendable `golfing' arm.

It will be tested and marked in three stages on the show, including how far the ball can be hit, the number of shots that it takes to make it to the hole, and its accuracy.

Adam said: "It's been a good laugh. It's just about a group of mates, all with the same passion, building something that you'd never otherwise build in your life." The friends, who have all built kit cars and drag racers in the past, will be travelling to Scotland for the television challenge in mid-August with the show airing in October.
