RESTAURANT chain McDonalds today launched a recruiting drive to fill 230 new `McJobs' in Manchester, as part of a campaign to take on 4000 new staff nationwide.
The fast food giant unveiled a new advertising strategy which it says will celebrate rather than defend the once disparaging term `McJob', by illustrating career benefits and opportunities through the voices of employees.
McDonalds says the recruitment drive is in response to sustained growth, which is seeing the company serve an extra two million customers per month, compared to last year.
Roger Khoryati, who owns seven restaurant franchises in Manchester city centre, said: "Creating new jobs is great for the local communities that McDonald's restaurants serve, and my businesses alone will be recruiting around 130 local people to fulfil the roles generated by this growth.
"This recruitment drive is a clear indication that customers are responding to the restaurant modernisation programme and menu changes that we've been rolling out over the last couple of years."

That's right! In a year or so you could have all your McStars, a few years after that you could be a McSupervisor and then the McSky is the McLimit!!!

I can say that I have worked for McDonalds, many years ago now, when I was fresh out of University, unlike you I suspect.
This gives me the right to point the finger at them and laugh if I feel like it... which I very often do.
It also gives me the right, I believe, to tell McJokes about them... For instance, What do you say to a graduate with a job?
"Big mac and large fries please"
:-)

What a sad state of affairs. It's no wonder society is going, going, gone down the pan when a job in McDonalds is an essential job for the British economy.
I am much more of a BK man myself.

H.Piggot is back and he is ready to give 'both barrels of his Holland and Holland' to fast food, sausage rolls and tracksuit wearers!
God bless you’re brown brogues and Greenwoods cardigan Henry. Tell it like it is!
However, this company is offering jobs to many of people, probably the people you dislike and constantly gripe at for not working!
A job is a job, good on anyone who wants to work! ‘Boo hiss sucks’ to Henry!

The problem is the government has enabled people to get themselves in a position where they need a GOOD paying job to live as they do on benefits...it's a joke!

The change of name seems to have bought a new logic to you. Shame that the typing is still as bad as mine.
McDonalds is not a career that people choose at school but when you have few qualifications, social skills or experience, you can't all have a cushy job working for MCC or GMPTE. If there are so many vacancies like this, it means we have too many people on the dole not being forced into these jobs.
Last time I looked the unemployment rate was higher than the vacancy rate so there should be no problem. With Tax credits for working families, it becomes more than a McJob

Maybe you could try running for office... You only need to be able to keep a straight face to be a councillor. :-)

I wouldn't take the mickey out of someone just because they work in a burger bar. (Just the rude ones, or the ones with a memory retention of 2 seconds). I respect someone who can serve the public all day, and keep their spirits up. I also have respect for people who will work, even if they don't particularly enjoy the job. They at least can have self-respect.

I wouldn’t have thought so by your comments!

The slobby women described by Henry are often accompanied by a lanky, unhealthy, aggressive looking shaven-headed gentleman friend. They usually have atremblings hands, a can of lager and a roll up.
I often wonder why these fine young men aren't at work. Then I realise it's because myself and other assorted tax payers are handing them enough to avoid work.
What a country.

I cannot disagree with him. as I see it every day. I only have to go out the door.
