Mum's terror journey

 Anne Fisher
A TERRIFIED mum has told how she thought she was going to die in a car-jacking.

Anne Fisher's husband Michael had just topped up their car with petrol at Sainsbury's, Heaton Park, and had gone to pay, when a `crazed' thug jumped into the driver's seat.

When Anne screamed, Michael ran back to the vehicle and tried to grab the ignition keys through the open window - but the car-jacker sped off.

Anne thought the couple's 13-year-old daughter Melanie was still in the car, but the teenager had managed to open one of the back doors and roll out before the car drove away.

Anne said: "My door was not properly closed and I had to grab the man's shellsuit to stop myself being thrown from the car.

"He seemed to be doing 100 miles an hour up the road."

The car raced along Middleton Road before she jumped out as it stopped at traffic lights.

The X-reg silver Renault Laguna was found by police on Whittle Lane, Middleton, where it had been abandoned.

Anne said the keys to the family's home had been in the car.

She said: "I never slept a wink. I knew he had every key for the flat, and every little noise made me jump. We've now had to have all the locks changed."

A police spokesman said: "Anyone who witnessed the incident can call us on 0161 872 5050."

Unbelievable, I know we are always being told, 'lock the doors, don't leave the the keys in the ignition' but it's not something you'd do with passengers in the car.
Glad to see Mrs Fisher and her daughter are OK.
If some of these scumbags put the same thought in to work as they do into thieving, they'd be millionaires.

car jacking is one thing but wearing a shell suit deserves the harshest punishment! I hope this fashion miscreant is caught quickly.

It is all propaganda put out by the authorities that crime has/is falling as I have said if crime is falling how come prisons are over crowded. Going on the governments figures there must be a lot of innocent people locked up because there not criminals they are locking up.

It's not funny though is it? How far do you have to take security measures to, before you can really 'be safe'???

Prisons are full because sentences are increasing. Between 2004 and 2006, the number of people being imprisoned fell by 9%, but average sentences have been increasing and prisoners have been spending more of their sentence in prison.

Mr & Mrs Fisher had better get used to the phenemenon of car jacking. By the time they fill up with petrol again the 'crazed' thief will have been arrested, interviewed, bailed and have done a couple more jobs!

Sounds like this lady had a lucky escape. Who knows why this man decided to take her car while there were still occupants in it. The poor woman must have been terrified. Either he was under the influence of something (drink/drugs) or he was not of sound mind. There's a limit to what you can do to protect yourself from something as unexpected as this. I leave the keys in my ignition when my wife and kids are still in the car. You just don't expect someone to try and highjack your car with your family ast in it. Let's hope they catch him soon and put him where he belongs.

I ALWAYS LOCK MY CAR DOORS WHEN I'M DRIVING WHETHER I HAVE PASSENGERS OR NOT.THE WAY THINGS ARE THESE DAYS YOU DON'T KNOW WHO WILL TRY AND GET IN WHEN YOUR SAT AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS.

Learn the lesson - NEVER EVER LEAVE YOUR KEY IN THE CAR IGNITION WHEN YOU GET OUT, either on a forecourt, or in the driveaway at home, even if there are others in the car. I hope this low life is caught - prison is too good for him, better the birch, or public flogging. Minister of Justice Jack Straw - bring back corporal punishment . Prison life or community service is too lenient. Make the sentence harsh enough so that these thugs will never want to commit crime again. What would the police do to this type of miscreant if this happened in a less democratic country ?
We have gone soft in this country with too many do-gooders and social workers making excuses for deprived backgrounds and unemployment.
