Anne Fisher's husband Michael had just topped up their car with petrol at Sainsbury's, Heaton Park, and had gone to pay, when a `crazed' thug jumped into the driver's seat.
When Anne screamed, Michael ran back to the vehicle and tried to grab the ignition keys through the open window - but the car-jacker sped off.
Anne thought the couple's 13-year-old daughter Melanie was still in the car, but the teenager had managed to open one of the back doors and roll out before the car drove away.
Anne said: "My door was not properly closed and I had to grab the man's shellsuit to stop myself being thrown from the car.
"He seemed to be doing 100 miles an hour up the road."
The car raced along Middleton Road before she jumped out as it stopped at traffic lights.
The X-reg silver Renault Laguna was found by police on Whittle Lane, Middleton, where it had been abandoned.
Anne said the keys to the family's home had been in the car.
She said: "I never slept a wink. I knew he had every key for the flat, and every little noise made me jump. We've now had to have all the locks changed."
A police spokesman said: "Anyone who witnessed the incident can call us on 0161 872 5050."

Glad to see Mrs Fisher and her daughter are OK.
If some of these scumbags put the same thought in to work as they do into thieving, they'd be millionaires.

It is all propaganda put out by the authorities that crime has/is falling as I have said if crime is falling how come prisons are over crowded. Going on the governments figures there must be a lot of innocent people locked up because there not criminals they are locking up.

Prisons are full because sentences are increasing. Between 2004 and 2006, the number of people being imprisoned fell by 9%, but average sentences have been increasing and prisoners have been spending more of their sentence in prison.

We have gone soft in this country with too many do-gooders and social workers making excuses for deprived backgrounds and unemployment.
