TWO men are in hospital with severe head injuries following separate attacks in the same street.
Police were called to two assaults on Yorkshire Street, in Oldham town centre, within about two hours of each other early on Sunday.

Det Sgt Liz Hopkinson, of Oldham CID, said: "Two men have received extremely nasty injuries as a result of two assaults in the town centre.
"I would like to reassure residents we are following a number of strong lines of inquiry to identify those responsible so they can be held accountable for their totally unacceptable actions."

Are they really assaults in the true sense or are they disagreements being settled in the old fashioned way with fistcuffs?
I remenber in the late fities, early sixties, that Oldham was like the wild west. A fantastic place for a good night out but also very violent.
The Lancashire police were in control at that time & I mean 'in control'.
Big hard men,(No, not women)could handle themselves & stood no messing whatsoever. Funnily enough,I never heard of a single case of a serious assault going before a magistrate or a really serious case of injury being reported.
Maybe the days of the big hard 'coppers' should be resurrected.

These two incidents must have happened right infront of their noses.
