SHOCKING footage of a naked man fighting for his life against knife-wielding robbers has been released by police.
The dad-of-three feared his attackers could have killed him if he had not fought back and has offered a £20,000 reward for information leading to their conviction.
Property investor Eddie Nevins, 54, was asleep in bed when the robbers broke into his bungalow through a window and crept into his bedroom.
The attack has left Mr Nevins so afraid that he is now planning to sell up and move.
As previously reported in the M.E.N, Mr Nevins awoke to see one of the masked men standing over him and the other at his bedroom door with a kitchen knife.
One of the men began hitting him over the head with a piece of wood demanding to know where the safe was and shouting for the other man to stab him.
Mr Nevins said: "I don't have a safe, people don't these days, but they kept asking where it was. I have a bat at the side of my bed, so I fought back. I don't think they expected that.
"I ran outside and they came after me to try to get me back inside. If they had done I'm sure they would have killed or tortured me. It was the most horrific thing I have ever experienced in my life."
Shouting for help
Mr Nevins - whose home is set in three acres of land - ended up climbing over a fence, jumping into a nearby lake and swimming to an island in the middle where he began shouting for help. When the robbers eventually left he went to a neighbour's house for help.
He added: "My wife was in Cyprus on business at the time, so I was in the house on my own.
"I went to a neighbour's house for help. It must have been very frightening for them to see a naked man covered in blood standing at the door.
"I was black and blue from head to foot. I had a cut hand and had to have stitches in my head. My son came to see me in the hospital and he was heartbroken to see the state they had left me in.
"The injuries have healed now, but I am still suffering from nightmares. We have been doing the place up for about three years and we often have the grandchildren to stay, but we don't want to be here anymore because of what happened, so we're trying to move. We're having roller shutters put up."
The attack happened at Mr Nevins' home in Nutt Lane, Simister between 12.30am and 12.50am on May 23.
Both men had their faces covered, but one is thought to be in his 20s and the other in his 30s.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 8179 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

This country is full of scum like this. No regard for anyone.
and what will happen to them when (more like if) they are caught?
They should be forced to fight for their lives against a knife wielding nutter, naked and being filmed so we can all enjoy the fun.
Councillor Allheart - I'd pay to see that - funny!
glad that this man is ok and thank god that his wife was not there as it could have worked of very differnt
i agree with Allheart, but i also think they should be forced to fight in a big arena like the one in Mad Max 3, surrounded by baying maniacs with mohicans and taunted by Tina Turner's enormous barnet.
Marc: you go too far - again!
If they did use an arena - the grand finalist should be forced to fight ace
Scum like that should be removed from this planet.
Will we be seeing this on Police, Camera, Action (or similar) soon? It seem that shows like is are what CCTVs are for. They had not stopped or prevented the crime at all.
alvinlwh: I've had to stop watching Police, Camera, Action! I find Alastair Stewart too embarassing.
He needs better security, it's obvious the country is full of scrotes.
"the grand finalist should be forced to fight ace"
now that is going too far! i pity the fool who has to face the Birchant of Menace in the arena!
If and when the government start to force people back to work or face no benefits they must realise vthat if they force these people out of benefits they will increase this type of robberies so must up the deterents to suit.the birch, corporal punishment back in schools and the death penalty because if not we are looking foreward to even more crime.
Grief Toursit - why should we have to barricade ourselves in because the courts are not handing out toughter sentencing. Hand the police back their proper job, not ruddy paperwork leave that to the CPS - let the bobby back on the streets if the parents wont control these thugs let the police, I would have been too scared to say anything to a policeman when I was growing up my fahter would have kicked my backside for answering a neighbour back lets take control again, if a parent wants to give THEIR child a whack let them, there is a difference between assaulting someone and giving them a smacked leg. This poor chap harms nobody and now feels unsafe in his home.
So, the country is in turmoil. Knife attacks every day almost now. School kids cant get there Sat results becaus of incompetent markers. Recession is just around the corner. Fuel prices going through the roof. And Gordon appears on the One Show 17th July 2008 on BBC 1 at 7pm and all he can talk about is how much he is looking forward to his holiday. Yes Prime Minister. Get your priorities right.
I for one will not fight Ace. I'm a lover not a fighter.
Here is news for you Mr Nevins in your ivory tower, we ALL feel scared when we hear noises in our tiny rented houses in the clogged Cities of UK..... I can understand you think you are immune to crime and this has been a wake up call to you......
I hope they catch these thugs, and I am certain the police will do much more than they would if this happened in one of the above mentioned areas, which are probably the same areas you have developed, raked in the profits and in doing so made it impossible for hard working people to buy a first home! That is the biggest crime of all..... Sleep well!
The country is full of scrotes.
At the same time, you've got people with money being able to get on the M.E.N, telling their story and offering a reward.
Awwww didumms, have you been robbed, what a shame, now you know what it's like. Poor people get robbed all the time.
No amount of extra jail sentences will make a difference, you need to tackle greed.
I think people should have a registered tool of defence that they can use to defend their family.
Its a pity he didn't have a gun on the premises ...or did he but just didn't have the time to unlock and load it.
Would have made good reading if he ehad shot the assialants.
Preferably dead.
'Soothsayer'
Couldn't agree more, I'm with you all the way.
If a criminal is hell bent on robbing you of your hard earned wealth, we, the innocent victims, should have the option to defend ourselves against them by any means at our disposal.
ALL YOU WITH YOUR NEGATIVE COMMENTS I HAVE KNOWN EDDIE FOR MANY YEARS AND AM A FAMILY FRIEND HOW DARE YOU CALL HIM GREEDY AND GIVE IT DIDDUMS JUST BECAUSE HE WORKED HARD TO GET WHERE HE IS YOU WANNA TRY IT YOURSELF YES POOR AND WEALTY PEOPLE GET TARGETED ALL THE TIME BUT DOES IT MEAN THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO ALMOST KILL HIM IN HIS OWN HOME BECAUSE HE HAD MONEY AND TRAUMATISE HIM AND HIS FAMILY I OULDNT WISH WHAT HAPPENED TO EDDIE ON MY WORST NIGHTMARE LETS HOPE YOU NEVER HAVE TO GO THROUGH WHAT HE DID!
