A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of rape after an elderly woman was attacked in her home in Bolton.

The 22-year-old from Bolton was arrested this morning, and remains in police custody for questioning.

Police received a report that a woman had been attacked and raped at her home in Smithills shortly before 1.10am on Friday, June 20.

Detectives are still appealing for witnesses and if anyone has any information about the incident, which happened sometime after 10pm or knows the person responsible for the attack please contact Bolton Major Incident Team on 0161 856 2197.
